  • Cohort Based (child is in same class with same teacher and students throughout entire 9 weeks)
  • Camp runs from June 28 through August 27, 2021

This year is a do over year, with 9 weeks of summer fun! We had such an amazing summer camp planned last year, that we just are not ready to give it up. So we are crossing out the zero on 2020 and adding a 1… The Olympics are set to happen this summer, and we too, will be diving into the Olympic spirit!

We will be keeping our cohort model for the Little Olympians summer program, and will have a blend of indoor and outdoor activities that are based on our weekly themes. There are half and full day options, and while it is too early to make the call, we are crossing our fingers that water play will be able to happen in the afternoons for non-nappers. We are not quite ready to bring events from outside of our community yet, but we have lots of amazing things planned on campus for our campers. We can’t wait to see you there!

Please note that signing up for the Little Olympians summer camp means that you are signing up for the full 9 weeks.

Early Childhood Earth Keepers

Outdoor Summer Camp: 1 Week Sessions

MCH Earth Keepers camp is an outdoor experience that is designed to offer fun, nature-based experiences and social time in a safe and healthy outdoor environment. An experienced environmental educator, Elementary teacher, Mr. Shawn, will lead this special program for EC students.

  • Class size is limited
  • Teachers and students may change weekly.

Please note that outdoor camp happens rain or shine. On rainy days, we will seek shelter, but kids should be ready for all-weather outdoor time. We will have a dedicated indoor classroom space to use for bathroom and handwashing.

Kids can count on having lots of fun and learning! Each week has a specific theme for lessons and exploration full of interesting and engaging activities, including silent hikes, yoga, meditation, scavenger hunts, birding, plant and animal identification, stories, non-touch group games, and so much more!

Parents should ensure that if a student is signed up for a full day schedule for Earth Keepers, that their child does not require a nap, as this program will not offer a nap time.

This program will take place over 9 weeks (each week is its own session).

During this week we will explore the relationships between animals, plants, fungi and other living creatures. Using the land and other materials, we will be looking at: how they interact with each other, how they help each other and how they can even harm each other. We will also look around our campus to see some of these relationships and see which organisms don’t belong here.

We will take this time to explore our campus to see how we, as humans, interact with the Nature around us and to see how MCH has used the natural resources all around us to create a warm, inviting place for all of us to learn and play. We will also take some time to look at how cultures in the past have become one with Nature.

Let’s talk about water! Water is slow, powerful, and everywhere. We will spend time understanding where water comes from, different kinds of water, and why it is so important to human beings. We will also enjoy weather in all of its glory by holding races and contests as we try to outsmart water itself.

We will spend this week counting, examining and getting to know the Nature around us through the wonderful world of mathematics and engineering. We’ll find patterns and try to make our own and discover how Nature has influenced humans as they design shelter, camouflage and even machines. By building and creating using what is around us, we will become better friends with our most important neighbor.

We’ll start by unfolding maps and discovering which way is North. We’ll study maps, create maps, and maybe even become maps! Students will learn how to use and read a compass, navigate our way around campus and make maps of their own. Then, by studying the marks animals leave behind, we’ll learn to find, hear, and track the animals in our own backyard. We may even discover fire!

This week, our brains will take flight on wings of imagination while we learn about our flying friends all around us. By observing the birds we see on campus, we’ll start to understand MCH’s bird population and what they are doing here. Students will learn about the life cycles of birds and what they need to survive. We’ll watch them eat, fly, build nests, and maybe even fight!

Come explore Mr. Shawn’s favorite subject, insects! We’ll hunt and track every crawling creature we can find. This includes our mollusk friends, the slugs and snails. We’ll find out why pill bugs roll up, the difference between millipedes and centipedes and why the yellow spotted millipede makes that smell.
